Nature Therapy Workshop

Nature Therapy (Ecotherapy) is an umbrella term encompassing many different modalities and nature-based practices aimed at integrating our natural environment into our lives to enhance health, well-being, and add more joy to our lives.  Examples of some of these methods include horticulture therapy, aromatherapy, and forest bathing, to name just a few of an expansive list.
 
Nature therapy is often considered an adjunct therapy aimed at healing versus curing, although the possibility of curing is never ruled out.  Currently, this is not a regulated form of care.  There is no licensing, therefore, people who are considering learning more about this to have another tool in their healthy lifestyle toolbox would be wise to look for licensed professionals offering this form of care, or at the very least a certification from a reputable organization.  Individuals should always consult their licensed healthcare professionals regarding their own health needs and to see if nature therapy would be beneficial.
 
There are now over 1000 studies linking benefits to Nature and Health.  Benefits may include:
Decrease stress, decrease cortisol levels, lower blood pressure, improve sleep, improve creativity, and more positive emotions, including joy and calmness.  Nature therapy has been shown to help process grief, trauma and facilitate concentration by reducing ruminating thoughts.  Participants in nature therapy also report spiritual experiences including discernment, connection with the divine, and transcendence.  The magic of nature therapy is that the same group of people can participate in the same program at the same time, yet achieve very different results.  That is the magical power of nature!
